"The Who" Indifferent To Bassist's Death
                                     by Dan Young

On June 27th, John Alec Entwistle, bassist of the popular rock band “The Who”, was found dead in his hotel room in Las Vegas, presumably the result of a heart attack. His death came just prior to the kickoff of The Who’s tour, which was to begin in mere days.

Many fans, fearing that the tour would surely be cancelled, were more than overjoyed to hear that the tour will in fact continue as scheduled, beginning tomorrow, July 1st. In an announcement aired on MTV, Roger Daltrey, lead singer of the group, confirmed that the death of their longtime friend and bassist “would be no impediment to the planned tour.”

Daltrey appeared to be attempting to look somewhat saddened and sympathetic, though many claimed that he actually looked generally unfazed.

“Let's face it: John was a great man, and not a half-bad bassist either," Daltrey admitted. "But at this point, he was just dead-weight. Every night we had to drag his fat ass up on stage and get him all liquored up just to convince him to play. We don’t need someone like that, so why the hell not continue the tour?”

Fans of The Who around the nation paused collectively, stunned, then broke into a roaring cheer, realizing that they’d still be able to see their blessed band perform this summer.

Hearing of the fans' satisfaction via satellite, Daltrey tore off his shirt in normal fashion, and began to swing his microphone by the cord, breaking into an impromptu rendition of The Who classic, “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”

At that moment, guitarist Pete Townshend jumped into the room and began to play the guitar riff to “Pinball Wizard”, while Daltrey improvised lyrics, singing about the “Heart Attack Wizard”, which is assumed to be a reference to the cause of Entwistle’s death.

When asked about the planned memorial show on the first night of the tour, the true indifference of the remaining Who bandmates towards their friends' death was apparent.

“That’s just one of them fuckin’ P.R. things,” Towshend scowled in a thick british accent. “Entwistle was a fucking load.”

Editor's Note: The Enduring Vision is actually quite fond of The Who and their music. John Entwistle, considered by many to be rock and roll's greatest bassist, will be sorely missed.
